The Noether Senior Scholar and Young Scholar awards were established in 1999, after Gottfried Emanuel Noether’s wife and daughter presented the American Statistical Association with an endowment fund to recognize distinguished researchers and teachers and to support research in the field of nonparametric statistics.

The Noether Senior Scholar Award is given each year to a distinguished senior researcher/teacher in nonparametric statistics. In addition to a substantial monetary prize, the recipient delivers an invited lecture during the Joint Statistical Meetings.

The Noether Young Scholar Award is given each year to an accomplished young researcher. This award is made to foster, encourage, and support both research and teaching in nonparametric statistics. In addition to a substantial monetary prize, the Noether Young Scholar will deliver an invited lecture the year after the award and be asked to report on research performed since receiving the award.

Nominations for both awards are due by December 31, 2009. Click here for nomination information. Questions may be addressed to Carlos J. Morales, chair of the Noether Awards Committee, at cmorales@wellington.com.
