Contest Created for New JSE Logo
As the Journal of Statistics Education (JSE) celebrates its 20th anniversary, we are excited to announce a contest to design a new logo. According to JSE founding editor, E. Jacquelin Dietz, the original logo was designed to represent a stylized open book.
Tom Short, the second JSE editor, redesigned the logo in 2001 (making its appearance in Volume 9 of JSE), creating the colorful version that serves as the current logo.
The time has come for a new logo, and we seek your help in creating it.
Design Criteria
We would like a logo (and/or word mark) that captures the essence of JSE. Ideally, the re-designed logo would incorporate or build upon the ideas conveyed in the original logo, but that is not an essential criterion for consideration. To learn more about JSE, visit the website and read through the JSE mission statement.
Submissions will be judged on their aesthetic quality and ability to capture the spirit of JSE.
Judging
A small group of current and former JSE Editorial Board members will judge the logos submitted. The person who creates the winning logo will receive a cash prize equivalent to the ASA member cost of registration for the 2014 Joint Statistical Meetings in Boston. If no logo is chosen as a winner in this first round of competition, we will resume the contest until we choose one.
Submissions and Questions
Questions and submissions can be sent to JSE Editor Michelle Everson at jse@umn.edu. Entries should be received no later than January 15, 2014, at 11:55 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time. Decisions regarding the entries will be made by February 15, 2014. Note that the person who designs the winning logo will need to sign a contract giving the American Statistical Association full rights to the logo.
