Yvonne Bishop

Yvonne Bishop, age 90, passed away at her home in Washington, DC, after a massive stroke.

Born in England, she spent many years at Harvard and the Office of Statistical Standards at the Energy Information Administration. Within the statistical community, she was known for Discrete Multivariate Analysis: Theory and Applications, which was translated into Chinese after the 1975 edition by MIT press.

The “State of Data” reports at the Energy Information Administration included many innovations applied to principal data series in assessment of quality, reliability, and intervention adjustment.

She is survived by her brother, Martin Bishop; sister-in-law, Ann Bishop; their daughter; and grandchildren, who live in Cornwall, England.

Robert Verhalen

Robert Verhalen passed away March 26, 2015, at the age of 79. A longtime member of the ASA, Verhalen was also a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean, Virginia. He was valued for his participation in his Christian men’s group, as well as for being a husband, father, and grandfather.
