Undergraduates: Applications Wanted for Project Competition

2 May 2016 415 views No Comment

The Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education (CAUSE) in conjunction with the American Statistical Association is accepting applications for its seventh annual undergraduate statistics project competition (USPROC).

The purpose of USPROC is to encourage the development of data analysis skills, enhance presentation skills, and recognize outstanding work by undergraduate statistics students.

Cash prizes will be awarded and winners will present their projects; however, all students will have the opportunity to give an e-poster presentation about their project at the second annual electronic Undergraduate Statistics Research Conference (eUSRC) October 21.

There are two main categories for submissions:

  • The Undergraduate Statistics Class Project (USCLAP) competition is for undergraduate students taking an applied statistics course(s) at an introductory or intermediate level in which a class project is part of the course work (either required or optional).
  • The Undergraduate Statistics Research Project (USRESP) competition is for undergraduate students who conduct either methodological or applied research projects that are statistically related. These projects may include research work from REU research projects, senior capstone research projects, or independent research projects that are not based on a specific course.

All levels of projects for both competitions are encouraged. A project can only be submitted to USRESP or USCLAP—not both.

Visit the competition website for details. The submission deadline is May 31.
