The ASA Section on Statistics and the Environment (ENVR) is sponsoring a student paper competition on the topic of environmental statistics and encourages students to submit papers about their research in this area.

In addition to the five invited sessions and two roundtables announced in the May issue of Amstat News, ENVR is sponsoring several topic-contributed sessions.

The winners of this year’s student paper competition are Matthias Katzfuss from The Ohio State University and Ephraim Hanks from Colorado State University.

The International Environmetrics Society (TIES) North American Regional meeting will be held in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, from July 18-20. Abstract submission runs through May 30.

The section is seeking nominations for the ENVR Distinguished Achievement Award and the new ENVR Young Investigator Award. Both are given in recognition of outstanding contributions to the development of methods, issues, concepts, applications, and initiatives of environmental statistics.

The ASA Section on Statistics and the Environment (ENVR) welcomes new members and encourages anyone interested in environmental problems to join. ENVR also is seeking nominations for their Distinguished Achievement Award and abstracts for JSM contributed papers.

The section held a well-attended workshop, called “Space-Time Statistics to Evaluate the Impacts of Climate on Health and Renewable Energy,” in Colorado in October.
