The winners are anticipated to attend the Joint Statistical Meetings; present their work; and participate in the sections’ business meetings to formally receive their awards.

In addition to four invited sessions, GSS sponsored seven topic-contributed sessions, including a student paper competition, and a roundtable session on missing data treatments for short-term statistics during a pandemic.

Eleven mentor/mentee pairs were matched through the Government Statistics Section mentoring program. The mentoring committee is working with participants to produce a roundtable event to cycle the program in sync with the 2021–2022 academic year.

The winners of the 2020 Data Challenge Expo are Lydia Carter and Phuong Ho. The theme for the 2021 Data Expo Challenge is “Helping Families, Business, and Communities Respond to COVID-19”

The Government Statistics Section is looking for participants to be mentors or mentees. You don’t even have to belong to the section to participate.

The Social Statistics Section, Government Statistics Section, and Survey Research Methods Section announce a competition for student and post-graduate papers.

The Government Statistics Section and Social Statistics Section hosted a free series of virtual workshops as part of the ASA’s professional development program. They will hold another series in the fall of 2020.

At JSM 2020, the Government Statistics Section will again host a mentoring roundtable to encourage diverse participation and engage young professionals and students with more senior, advanced-career members.

The Government and Social Statistics sections will offer virtual workshops focusing on user applications in fall 2020.

From around the world came 150 people to participate in the Seasonal Adjustment Practitioners Workshop at the Bureau of Labor Statistics in November of 2019.
