Practical Significance | Episode 6: ASA Pride
June is Pride Month, and the ASA is strong in its commitment to and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. As one way to participate in Pride Month, Practical Significance hosts Donna LaLonde and Ron Wasserstein welcome to the show Suzanne Thornton, who chaired the LGBTQ+ Working Group, and Jiashen You, the current chair of the LGBTQ+ Advocacy Committee.
Suzanne reflects on her role leading the LGBTQ+ Working Group and the supportive network she’s formed with ASA colleagues. Jiashen shares his passion for the work of the LGBTQ+ Advocacy Committee as it has evolved over the last 10 years and, as the current chair, discusses how he is answering the call for expanding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Together, Suzanne and Jiashen highlight exciting outcomes, personal rewards, and the work ahead. They also offer a teaser for the newly established ASA Pride Scholarship, which will enhance the statistics and data science fields by acknowledging the talent of and contributions from marginalized groups within the disciplines.
Listen in to this compelling and celebratory episode and don’t miss Ron’s traditional “Top 10,” as he offers up the top 10 “Rejected Self-Help Book Titles.”
