My ASA Story: Leslie McClure, Professor

Leslie McClure says she found involvement in the ASA has allowed her to pursue her passion for increasing diversity and representation among folks traditionally underrepresented in statistics, including BIPOC statisticians, statisticians who identify as women, and LBGTQ+ statisticians.

The Statistics Division of the American Society for Quality is offering $7,500 scholarships to support students enrolled in or accepted into a master’s degree or higher program with a concentration in applied statistics and/or quality management.

SPES Seeks Interest in Speaker Program

The Industrial Speakers Program was established by SPES in the early 1990s to coordinate visits by experienced statisticians to universities and colleges across the country. SPES approves up to six speaker visits per year and can reimburse the host institution up to $500 for the speaker’s travel expenses.

First Annual ASA Conference on Statistical Practice in February

Over the past nine months, members of the Conference on Statistical Practice organizing and conference committees have envisioned and worked toward a conference focused on the needs of applied and consulting statisticians concerned with urgent problems, issues, and systems for clients and organizations to improve processes, products, and decisions. That vision will become a reality from February 16–18, 2012, as the first ASA Conference on Statistical Practice takes place in Orlando, Florida.
