The Section on Statistics in Epidemiology invites applications from young investigators who will be presenting papers at the 2012 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Diego, California.
ENVR Encourages Students to Submit Papers for Competition
The ASA Section on Statistics and the Environment (ENVR) is sponsoring a student paper competition on the topic of environmental statistics and encourages students to submit papers about their research in this area.
Survey Research Methods Section Offers Travel Award
The Survey Research Methods Section (SRMS) offers a student travel award for students in doctoral programs in statistics, survey methodology, or allied disciplines. Support is offered for students to attend the Joint Statistical Meetings, to be held in San Diego, California, from July 28 to August 2, 2012.
Statistical Computing, Graphics Sections Sponsor Student Paper Competition
The Statistical Computing and Statistical Graphics sections of the ASA are cosponsoring a student paper competition on the topics of statistical computing and statistical graphics. Students are encouraged to submit a paper in one of these areas, which might be original methodological research, a novel computing or graphical application in statistics, or a software-related project.
Student Paper Award 2012 Submission Requirements Announced
Student paper awards ($1,000 for first place) are presented annually during the Biopharmaceutical Section open business meeting held at the Joint Statistical Meetings. Student research papers with statistical content applicable to the biopharmaceutical arena are eligible for consideration.
Risk Analysis Section Soliciting Entries for Paper Competition
The ASA Section on Risk Analysis is soliciting entries for its student/young researcher paper competition. Each year, the section offers at least one student/young researcher travel award of $1,000 to defray costs for attending and presenting at the Joint Statistical Meetings.
Chambers Statistical Software Award Competition Announced
In 1998, the Association for Computing Machinery presented its Software System Award to John Chambers for the design and development of S. Chambers donated his award to the Statistical Computing Section to endow an annual prize for statistical software written by an undergraduate or graduate student. The prize carries an award of $500 and a substantial allowance for travel to the annual Joint Statistical Meetings, where the award will be presented.
Proposals, Papers Wanted for JSM 2012
Biometrics Section program chair, Timothy D. Johnson, is collecting proposals for topic-contributed talks. The section also is seeking applications for the 2012 David P. Byar Young Investigator Award, given to a young investigator for best emerging work to be presented during JSM.
JSM 2012 Invited Sessions Sought
The 2012 Joint Statistical Meetings will be held in San Diego—a sunny, temperate city on California’s southwestern coast. In addition to a wonderful climate, San Diego features many attractions and a large turnout is expected. The time has come to put together proposals for invited sessions.
