State of the Data Infrastructure Series: Census Bureau
For the latest State of the Data Infrastructure feature, Count on Stats spoke with three experts about the US Census Bureau: Margo Anderson of the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, an expert on the history of the bureau and federal statistical system; Allison Plyer, chief demographer of The Data Center and recent chair of the bureau’s Scientific Advisory Committee; and Nancy Potok, most recently chief statistician of the US who, most notably, has also been deputy director and chief operating officer of the bureau and deputy undersecretary for economic affairs at the US Department of Commerce.
COC Members Reach Out with Books Despite COVID Snags
With all the judging and interaction with students for the 2021 International Science and Engineering Fair virtual, the ASA Council of Chapters had to overcome some challenges, like how to offer 100 students their choice of a book when they were located around the world and the books were in an office in Southern California.
2020 Bachelor’s Degree Recipients in Statistics Show Resilience
This spring’s respondents to the ASA survey of 2020 bachelor’s graduates reported a challenging, stressful, and prolonged job search, although the results also show an unemployment rate roughly the same as the rate for the 2016 and 2017 respondents, higher median salaries, and hiring by a variety of companies.
