The Penn State Department of Statistics hosted the 2025 Rao Prize Conference on May 20 to recognize leading contributors to the statistics field. Among the honorees were Trevor Hastie, recipient of the 2025 C. R. and Bhargavi Rao Prize, and Martin Wainwright, the 2025 P. R. Krishnaiah Lecturer.

Elizabeth L. Scott Award Goes to Madhu Mazumdar
The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies Elizabeth L. Scott Award committee recently honored Madhu Mazumdar of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai with the 2022 award. Mazumdar was selected for serving as an outstanding role model of leadership and creating new leadership opportunities for statisticians, fostering opportunities in statistics and promoting statistical careers for diverse trainees, training and mentoring the next generation of statistical leaders, and excelling in team science research.
Master’s Programs in Data Science and Analytics (Continued …)
More universities are starting master’s programs in data science and analytics, of which statistics is foundational, due to the wide interest from students and employers. Amstat News reached out to those in the statistical community who are involved in such programs.
2013 Rao Prize Conference
The Department of Statistics at Penn State University will hold a one-day conference on Saturday, October 5, 2013 to honor Herman Chernoff, the 2013 Rao Prize winner, and Steve Fienberg, the 2013 P. R. Krishnaiah lecturer.
