In response to the White House’s Request for Information on the Development of an Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, the ASA’s Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee and the Committee on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence orchestrated the ASA’s submission highlighting the essential role of statistical science in developing, optimizing, and evaluating AI systems.

Two Take Home First Place in Statistical Significance Competition
The ASA Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee has sponsored the annual Statistical Significance competition since 2009. This year, there were 32 participants who submitted a one-page piece explaining how their research connects to society.
Committee Spotlight: Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee
Members of the ASA Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee keep track of and are responsive to current events relating to the collection, analysis, and use of statistics. They help decide whether the ASA should comment on, or even support, for example, rule changes or legislation, generally in the federal government.

With a record number of 50 submissions to the annual JSM Statistical Significance competition, the ASA Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee (SPAAC) recognized two first-place winners, three second-place winners, and five honorable mentions.
