A symposium in honor of Jack Kalbfleisch, “Methodologic Advances in the Analysis of Outcomes Data,” was held September 28–29 at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Approximately 160 celebrated Kalbfleisch’s contributions to statistics and service to the profession.

Marie Davidian, William Neal Reynolds Professor of Statistics and director of the Center for Quantitative Sciences in Biomedicine at North Carolina State University, will deliver the keynote address at the North Carolina Symposium for Women in Mathematics and Statistics, to be held at NC State on April 16. Her talk will focus on a variety of applications that require combining mathematical and statistical modeling.

CDC Symposium to Focus on Massive, Complex Data in Public Health

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) 13th Biennial Symposium on Statistical Methods will be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Decatur, Georgia (Atlanta metropolitan area), May 24–25. The theme of this year’s conference is “Statistical Applications Using Massive and Emerging Data in Public Health.”

Symposium Given in Honor of Steve Lagakos

A day-long symposium in honor of Steve Lagakos was held at the Harvard School of Public Health on October 22. Lagakos, a professor of biostatistics at Harvard, died in a car accident with his wife and mother-in-law on October 13, 2009.

There will be a one-day symposium on October 22 in honor of Stephen Lagakos, who died in an accident in October of 2009. Discussion will reflect Lagakos’s interests, including HIV prevention, biostatistical education in the 21st century, and clinical trials.
