Michael D. Larsen, SRMS 2012 Program Chair

The Survey Research Methods Section (SRMS) was well represented at this year’s JSM in San Diego, California. The section had five invited, 16 topic-contributed, and 13 contributed sessions. There was one poster session with 17 posters and two roundtables, one led by Lars Lyberg on total survey error and one led by Joe Sakshaug on linking administrative and survey data sets.

The section also had a Continuing Education course, Paradata in Survey Research, taught by Frauke Kreuter and a technology workshop, SAS Procedures for Analyzing Survey Data, taught by Pushpal Mukhopadhyay.

As program chair, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to a great JSM 2012 program for the section. I especially want to thank SRMS past program chair Paul Beatty for much valuable advice. Thanks also go to individuals who organized invited and topic-contributed sessions, individuals who contributed abstracts for papers and posters, and everyone who contributed ideas and proposals for roundtables and Continuing Education courses. Thanks also to everyone who chaired or volunteered to chair a session. Giving your time at the conference to support the section is truly appreciated. Several individuals helped with judging posters at the conference, while Jill Dever and Rachel Harter led efforts for judging student paper and travel awards.

Kreuter is incoming program chair-elect for SRMS. I encourage you to support her in getting ready for JSM 2013. I look forward to the next SRMS program and to seeing you in Montréal!
