Census Bureau Releases Public Data

1 April 2017 371 views No Comment

The U.S. Census Bureau has released the initial version of public data from the re-engineered Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). This data set contains variables from Wave 1 of the 2014 SIPP panel.

The SIPP is the Census Bureau’s premier survey for measuring the dynamics of income, employment, health insurance, and participation in government transfer programs. The survey provides detailed, monthly information about the family, social, and economic contexts of individuals and households. SIPP is a longitudinal survey, following the same set of respondents over a four-year period, allowing researchers to understand how these contexts change over time.

Accompanying the data release are a number of supporting materials, including research briefs, metadata, a users’ guide, release notes, and user notes. The supporting materials are available on the SIPP website, as is other information about the survey and a link to download the data. Additional announcements, including notifications of version updates, will be made as necessary through the SIPP website and listserv.

For questions or additional information, see the SIPP website or email census.sipp@census.gov.
