The 29th ASA Quality and Productivity Research Conference (QPRC) will be held at the Long Beach, California, campus of California State University from June 5–7. The goal of the conference is to stimulate interdisciplinary research among statisticians, scientists, and engineers in quality and productivity, industrial needs, and the physical and engineering sciences. Statistical issues and research approaches drawn from collaborative research will be highlighted. Contributed paper submissions on these topics will be accepted until March 31.
Bill Woodall, professor of statistics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, will be a featured keynote speaker and honored for his many contributions to statistical quality control and improvement, including health-related monitoring and prospective public health surveillance. Also, a pre-conference short course on statistical process control will be taught by Di Michelson of SAS Institute on June 4.
Scholarships for participation in the conference include the Mary G. and Joseph Natrella scholarships and QPRC student scholarships. The two Natrella scholarships each include a $3,500 grant, $500 stipend toward travel and housing expenses, and complimentary registration for the conference and pre-conference short course. In addition, winners of the Natrella scholarships will give a presentation on their research at the conference.
A limited number of QPRC student scholarships, which include complimentary conference registration, are available for presenting students. Interested students should apply immediately by sending their résumé and one letter of recommendation from a current statistics professor to the conference chair, Daniel R. Jeske, at daniel.jeske@ucr.edu.
