Data Challenge Expo to Use General Social Survey

January 2, 2024 Leave a Comment

The Annual Data Challenge Expo—to be held in conjunction with the 2024 Joint Statistical Meetings in Portland, Oregon, August 3–8—is open to students and professionals from the private and public sectors who submit a contributed speed poster abstract by February 1.

This year, the data set is from the General Social Survey, which collects data on topics in contemporary American society to monitor and explain trends in opinions, attitudes, and behaviors. A complete list of survey variables can be found on the GSS Data Explorer.

To enter, contestants must do the following:

  • Submit an abstract for a contributed speed poster session to the JSM 2024 website and specify the Statistical Computing Section as the primary sponsor
  • Forward the JSM abstract submission email with abstract number, title, and authors to Edward Mulrow and Wendy Martinez
