The 2025 Symposium on Data Science and Statistics will take place April 29 – May 2 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and feature plenary speakers from the region—Shane Reese, president of Brigham Young University and American Statistical Association Fellow, and Julia Silge, a data scientist and engineering manager at Posit PBC, where she leads a team of developers building fluent, cohesive open-source software for data science in R and Python. The third plenary will be a panel discussion on the impact of AI and LLMs on statistical education and research.
Attendees can also participate in the following short courses for a variety of skills and interests:
- Time Series Applications with a Machine Learning Framework, led by Sean McMannamy of Graceland University
- Building Containerized Applications for Data Science, led by J. Alex Hurt of the University of Missouri
- Accelerating Data Science Workflows with Kubernetes, led by J. Alex Hurt of the University of Missouri
- Introduction to Interpretable Machine Learning using SHAP, GINI, and LIME, led by Debarshi Datta of Florida Atlantic University
- Integrating Large Language Models in Introductory Data Science Courses, led by Jeanne McClure, Sunghwan Byun, Joe Faith, Zarifa Zakaria, and Mathew Ferrel of North Carolina State University
Conference registration and submission for lightning presentation talks open January 7. Lightning talks include a five-minute presentation followed by an e-poster session. Lightning presentation submission ends February 5.
The symposium will offer networking opportunities for early to mid-career attendees through speed mentoring and one-on-one mentoring opportunities. Sign up to be a mentor and participate in one-on-one mentoring as a mentor, mentee, or both.
