Bonnie Ghosh-Dastidar

Past ASA President Bonnie Madhumita Ghosh-Dastidar was recently honored with the 2025 Outstanding Science Alumni Award from the Penn State Eberly College of Science. This award recognizes alumni who have made significant professional contributions and demonstrated a strong commitment to mentorship.

Originally from Kolkata, India, Ghosh-Dastidar earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in statistics from Penn State in 1996 and 1999, respectively. Now a data scientist at RAND, she has played a pivotal role in shaping public health policy. Her research has informed critical evaluations of neighborhood-level health interventions, HIV-positive patient outcomes, and military sexual assault assessments.

Ghosh-Dastidar is the 119th president of the ASA and an elected ASA Fellow. Her service to the association includes chairing the Health Policy Statistics Section, co-chairing the International Conference on Health Policy Statistics, and championing diversity and mentorship initiatives.

Ghosh-Dastidar’s contributions to statistics and public policy have earned her widespread recognition. She previously received Penn State’s Distinguished Alumnus Award from the department of statistics.

Through her leadership and research, Ghosh-Dastidar continues to make a lasting impact on public health, data science, and the broader statistical community.
