My name is Moira Skelley, and I’m the ASA’s new section and interest group coordinator. I play a crucial role in ensuring the success and growth of the ASA’s various sections and interest groups, fostering a strong sense of community, and promoting engagement among members.
I graduated from George Mason University with a degree in communications and a minor in electronic journalism. After studying in Florence, Italy, in college, I developed a love of travel. Since then, I have visited 17 countries and have plans to visit my 18th this year. It is difficult to pick my favorite country, but Ireland and New Zealand are definitely at the top of my list.
My love of personal travel has transitioned into a love of travel for work. It’s a great way to explore new places and figure out which ones I want to visit again. I also enjoy meeting members and making in-person connections. I look forward to meeting everyone at the Joint Statistical Meetings and other section events.
I started my career in association management, where I gained insight into a variety of associations and sectors and managed various responsibilities, including membership, marketing, and events. Most recently, I worked at the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates as the manager of events and marketing. I strategically promoted member resources while managing meeting logistics for numerous events, including an annual trade show and fall summit.
I live in Northern Virginia with my husband, Andrew. In May, we will celebrate one year of marriage. Together, we have a six-year-old rescue pup named Teddy. We did a DNA test a few years ago and found out he is a mix of Chihuahua, shih tzu, Russell terrier, Pomeranian, and dachshund.
I’m excited for this new chapter in my career and can’t wait to learn more about the profession. Don’t hesitate to reach out if I can be of assistance.
