ASA member Jayalakshmi “Jaya” Natarajan passed away on June 1 at the age of 77.
Born March 17, 1948, in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, India, Natarajan earned a master’s degree in mathematics from Madurai University before moving to the United States with her husband, Sesha “Raj” Iyer Natarajan. She continued her studies, completing a second master’s from Case Western Reserve University and a PhD in statistics from Rutgers University.
Natarajan’s career included teaching at Fairleigh Dickinson University before she joined Johnson & Johnson in 1991, where she worked as a biostatistician for 34 years. A longtime resident of Hillsborough, New Jersey, she was deeply committed to education, family, and her profession.
