This month, we spotlight statistics student Chris Chung of North Carolina State University, who answered a few questions, so we could get to know him better.
How did you become interested in statistics and/or data science?
I initially started studying statistics to help with my chemistry research. After seeing how it applied to my research, I became interested in how it could be applied to other problems, not just in chemistry.
What do you consider your dream job?
My dream job is one where I can continue to research novel ideas that contribute to the field of statistics.
What do you hope understanding statistics and/or data science helps you accomplish?
I hope understanding statistics helps in my collaboration with other researchers and in my teaching of potential statisticians.
Is there a particular group of statisticians you would like to reach out to you?
As a student at North Carolina State, it would be interesting to hear from the student chapter there, the Statistics Club.
What is your favorite hobby?
My favorite hobby is playing the viola. While I haven’t had as much time recently to be part of an orchestra, meeting other musicians and performing on stage are my favorite parts of it.
What is something you would like people to know about you that we haven’t asked?
In addition to statistics research, I’ve also been a research chemist, specifically in polymer chemistry.
