Cynthia Bland, Samantha Seals, and Jessica Kohlschmidt, Co-Chairs of the 2026 IDWSDS Conference
The Caucus for Women in Statistics and Data Science will host the fifth annual International Day of Women in Statistics and Data Science on October 6, a free virtual event running throughout the day across time zones worldwide.
This year’s theme, “Creating Global Connections,” celebrates the many ways statisticians and data scientists build relationships, collaborate across borders, and contribute to a global community. Conference presentations will highlight examples of international collaboration and the impact of statistical and data science work around the world. Participants will also have opportunities to form new connections by engaging with speakers and attendees from a wide range of countries and professional backgrounds.
A highlight of the 2026 conference will be six keynote speakers representing six continents, offering diverse perspectives on leadership, innovation, and the future of the profession. In addition, the conference will introduce 30-minute plenary presentations on technical topics, providing attendees with more in-depth discussions of methodology, applications, and emerging areas of research. Returning features include invited sessions and contributed presentations that have become hallmarks of the conference.
By supporting IDWSDS, participants help amplify the voices of women in statistics and data science and strengthen a global network of professionals committed to innovation, collaboration, and inclusion.
Although women continue to make important contributions to statistics and data science, they remain underrepresented in many settings. IDWSDS recognizes the importance of creating opportunities for visibility, mentorship, collaboration, and professional growth. Through this event, CWS aims to support and celebrate women while fostering a more inclusive profession for all.
The goals of the conference include the following:
- Showcase women and their contributions to statistics and data science
- Connect female statisticians and data scientists around the world
- Encourage collaboration among statistical and data science societies
- Promote greater inclusion and diversity within the profession
- Strengthen connections between statistics and data science
IDWSDS is designed to be accessible to a global audience. By offering a free, fully virtual format, the conference removes travel and registration cost barriers and expands opportunities for participation. While the conference centers on the experiences and achievements of women, everyone is welcome to attend and contribute to the conversation. Meaningful progress requires the engagement of allies and advocates across the profession.
Registration opens in mid-August. For more information, email idwsds@cwstat.org, and follow IDWSDS on LinkedIn for conference updates.
