The Women We Admire membership organization has named ASA Founder and Fellow Sally Morton as one of its top women leaders in education of 2026.
According to Women We Admire, the work of education leadership no longer fits neatly inside one institution or one kind of role, and the women recognized this year bring the responsibility of leadership to classrooms, campuses, companies, and community programs.
Morton serves as executive vice president at Arizona State University, where she oversees the institutes and initiatives, holds a professorship in the mathematical and statistical sciences and college of health solutions, and holds the Florence Ely Nelson Chair.
Her career has spanned statistics, education, research, and national policy—including roles as dean of Virginia Tech’s College of Science, chair of biostatistics at the University of Pittsburgh, vice president of statistics and epidemiology at RTI international, and head of the RAND Corporation Statistics Group. A member of the National Academy of Medicine, she also served as the ASA president in 2009 and chaired Section U of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2013.
Women We Admire is a member-led organization that provides members with connections to female leaders in business, technology, finance, law, medicine, and more.
