Practical Significance | Episode 37: Let’s Get Real World with Brian Tarran
Practical Significance co-hosts Donna Lalonde and Ron Wasserstein kick off season four by welcoming the editor of Real World Data Science, Brian Tarran, to the show. A new initiative from the Royal Statistical Society in partnership with the ASA, Real World Data Science features content developed by data scientists. Tarran’s aim is for the site to be a trusted, go-to source for high-quality and engaging content that supports ethical and impactful practice.
Because the target audience for Real World Data Science is all who work in data science, Tarran learned to use tools used by data scientists to develop the site. He shares his Quarto and GitHub learning curve, the motivating forces behind the project, his experiences developing the site, and what he believes is in store for Real World Data Science and public journalism. He encourages ASA members to contribute content because the goal is to have content that reflects all aspects of data science. When not editing Real World Data Science, Tarran enjoys playing video games, so tune in for a recommendation.
And don’t miss Ron’s traditional Top 10, as he gives us his “Top Ten Signs the Practical Significance Podcast is a Success.”
