Fortunately, 2024 is a leap year and February has an extra day because David Matteson, professor and associate chair for the statistics and data science and social statistics department at Cornell University, has a full plate. He recently took on the role of director of the National Institute of Statistical Sciences and is leading the editorial team for Data Science in Science, the newest open-access addition to the ASA’s portfolio of publications.
This month, he joins Practical Significance co-hosts Donna LaLonde and Ron Wasserstein to discuss the purpose and scope of Data Science in Science and how it differentiates itself from other publications.
While the journal aims to advance data science research, Matteson emphasizes it strives to be a home for collaborative research that spans multiple scientific domains. He offers key features researchers can expect when submitting to the new journal and highlights the opportunities to become involved on the editorial side.
Matteson also shares his perspective on how artificial intelligence is shaping the landscape of scholarly publishing and discusses his role at NISS, his goals for the organization, and how you can get involved.
