Thanks to generous support from Nan Laird, who was awarded the 2021 International Prize in Statistics in recognition of her transformative work, the ASA launched the Telling Our Stories video project to raise awareness of the profound impact of statistics and inspire a greater appreciation for its contribution to advancing science and society.

The latest installment in the series highlights former ASA President and retired US Census Director Rob Santos, who returns to “Practical Significance” to reflect on his storytelling journey. Cohosts Donna LaLonde and Ron Wasserstein also welcome Anna Soldatova and Dmitrii Petrov, the videographers from DVA Productions who take listeners behind the scenes to reveal how Rob’s story evolved from conceptualization to final cut.

In this episode, the stories and storytellers offer insights about statistics, creativity, and much more. And don’t miss Ron’s always-entertaining Top 10 segment: “The Top Ten Signs You Are a Texas Statistician.”

After the podcast, be sure to watch Rob’s new video about statistics in public service, as well as the first video in the series with Maria Cuellar about statistics in forensic science.

Special thanks to the May sponsor of the “Practical Significance” podcast, Cytel, a global leader in cutting-edge analytical solutions, quantitative methods, and innovative statistical software for the life sciences industry. For nearly four decades, Cytel has pioneered adaptive trial design, using data-driven insights to inform strategy across all phases of drug development and commercialization. Cytel drives innovation in clinical research by accelerating drug development, improving success rates, and delivering better patient outcomes. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Cytel has more than 2,000 employees worldwide.
