Demystifying Apportionment Computations for the US House of Representatives
Basic arithmetic skill (multiplication, division, and taking square roots) is all one needs to remove any mystery concerning the details of the computations about how to determine the number of seats each state gets based on its population.
Emma Benn
Emma Benn has collaborated on a variety of health disparities-related research projects and teaches a graduate-level course, “Race and Causal Inference,” aimed at increasing the methodologic rigor by which health disparities are investigated, with a goal of finding effective causal targets for intervention. Benn’s contributions to diversity and inclusion in statistics and STEM have been celebrated by various organizations, including Mathematically Gifted and Black.
Three Sections Unite to Sponsor Competition, Provide Travel Awards
Winners will present their papers at a topic-contributed session during the 2020 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Mental Health Statistics Section Student Paper Competition
The Mental Health Statistics Section is sponsoring a student paper competition. Winners will receive $1,000 toward the cost of travel to the Joint Statistical Meetings.
