The ASA Committee on Applied Statisticians offers a wide variety of sessions relevant for applied statisticians.

The ASA Committee on Membership Retention and Recruitment is working to understand the current membership experience, provide networking opportunities, and reinstate a fun tradition at the Joint Statistical Meetings.

These awards are jointly sponsored by COPSS founding partner members: the American Statistical Association; Institute of Mathematical Statistics; Eastern and Western regions of the International Biometric Society; and Statistical Society of Canada.

The ASA Pathways to Promotion Committee brought together Walter Ambrosius and Leslie McClure for a webinar in their Establishing a Collaborative Career in Academia series. The title of the free webinar is “Developing Your Promotion Packet as an Academic Collaborative Statistician.”

Members of the ASA’s Committee on Privacy and Confidentiality will present at JSM 2021 and the 2021 World Statistics Congress.

The Social Statistics Section will host a JSM 2020 invited session and an associated roundtable about how differential privacy is applied to various 2020 Census data products to help protect the privacy of individuals and what that means for formal privacy.

On January 28, a webinar sponsored by the ASA Privacy and Confidentiality Committee was presented by Michael Hawes, senior adviser for the Data Access and Privacy, Research, and Methodology Directorate of the US Census Bureau, titled “Differential Privacy and the 2020 Decennial Census.”

Activities of the Scientific and Public Affairs Advisory Committee have included discussing statistical perspectives on current issues, organizing sessions for the Joint Statistical Meetings, and hosting a student paper contest.
