I grew up in Minnesota and became interested in statistics during my AP Statistics class in high school, where it became clear stats was a tool to help us understand and cope with uncertainty and could help us find answers to important and interesting questions. (Shout out to my teacher, Mr. Bailey!)

The story of my career after that continues on a bit of an unusual path. I majored in math at a liberal arts school, where I had a lot of freedom to take classes in other areas, and I loved figuring out how all the subjects connected. I then earned a biostatistics PhD, fell in love with programming, and ended up as a software engineer. I specialized in machine learning for a few years and dabbled in security. I’ve gotten to work on fraud prevention, payment platform security, political forecasting, and (most recently) bookkeeping software. I’ve loved getting to use my background to solve a huge variety of puzzles and problems!

I’m currently a software engineer at Pilot, a bookkeeping startup in San Francisco. In my free time, I like to bike (on roads or mountains), hike, ski, play piano, do improv, and make pizza!
