Nominations Wanted for Distinguished Achievement Award
The Statistics in Defense and National Security Section invites nominations for the SDNS Distinguished Achievement Award. This annual award is given to a member of the statistical community in recognition of an outstanding accomplishment or a record of sustained contribution at the intersection of statistics and national defense or security.

The ASA Statistics in Defense and National Security Section is seeking nominations for the SDNS Distinguished Achievement Award.
Priebe Wins Achievement Award
The Statistics in Defense and National Security (SDNS) Distinguished Achievement Award was presented to Carey E. Priebe during the section’s business meeting and mixer at JSM 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Priebe was given the award for outstanding leadership and accomplishments on research projects for the Navy, Army, Air Force, DARPA, and the intelligence community.
Nominations Sought for Distinguished Achievement Award
Nominations are needed for the Distinguished Achievement Award, presented to a member of the statistics community by the Section on Statistics in Defense and National Security. Any member of the section is allowed to nominate.
Speakers Program Offered
Have you ever wondered what kind of statistical research helps keep the nation safe from biological attacks or helps officials understand terrorist networks? Are you interested in learning what a defense statistician’s job is like and what kind of problems they face? The ASA Section on Statistics in Defense and National Security has a speakers program that allows experienced researchers to answer these and other questions.
ACAS an Important Conference for SDNS Members
The Army Conference on Applied Statistics (ACAS) is pleased to announce that Arizona State University in Tempe will host its 15th annual meeting from October 21–23, 2009. ACAS is a conference of the Interface Foundation of North America and a leading forum for the presentation and discussion of theoretical and applied papers relating to the use of probability and statistics for solving defense- and security-related problems.
