Practical Significance Episode 3 | Celebrating the History of Women in Statistics and Data Science
Celebrating women’s history in statistics and data science honors the impact and influence of the women who first broke barriers in a then male-dominated field and those who followed in their footsteps to make their mark on the profession. Our shared history is comprised of events and experiences that have helped create a stronger, more diverse profession.
The ASA Committee on Women in Statistics, the Women in Statistics and Data Science (WSDS) Conference, and the Caucus for Women in Statistics—which is celebrating its 50th anniversary—all serve to advance the careers of today’s female statisticians and data scientists.
Dalene Stangl, who serves on the WSDS Executive Committee, and Wendy Martinez, who was elected the 115th president of the association in 2018 and is a founder of the History of Statistics Interest Group, join hosts Donna LaLonde and Ron Wasserstein for this edition of Practical Significance.
They share why it is important to celebrate women’s success in the profession, the significance of curating history, and the ongoing mission to create opportunities for women. And you won’t want to miss Ron’s traditional “Top 10,” when he offers up the top 10 signs your boss is insane!
