Statistics Awards Given at ISEF
The Southern California Chapter recently had the opportunity to participate in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which was held May 8–13 in Los Angeles. While this global science competition for high-school students does not have a separate award category for statistics, the ASA was one of many participating organizations that sponsored both judging and awards.
April a Flurry of Activity
April was a busy month for the Southern California Chapter, which saw its annual workshop, careers day in statistics, and career fair.
AP Statistics Project Competition Breaks Record
The Southern California Chapter held its fifth annual project competition for high-school AP Statistics students on May 15 at City of Hope National Medical Center. A new record of 73 teams (from seven schools) participated.

The Southern California Chapter of the ASA presented its 29th annual Workshop in Applied Statistics on April 30 at the RAND Corporation, in Santa Monica. Carter Butts, professor of sociology at the University of California, Irvine, spoke on social networks.
