Boston Chapter Concludes 175th Anniversary Celebrations with Symposium, Banquet

The Boston Chapter held a symposium and banquet this past December to celebrate the ASA’s 175th anniversary. The event, with the theme “Future of Statistics,” was held at Simmons College, only a few miles from the original ASA meeting place on 15 Cornhill.

This year’s Joint Statistical Meetings was particularly special because the ASA celebrated its 175th anniversary. There were special events, a slew of activities, and a few firsts. To top it off, it was the largest meeting in JSM history, with 6,809 in attendance. Read on to learn about some of the highlights.

The theme of the ASA’s 175th anniversary is “Celebrate Our Past, Energize Our Future.” One does not need to look far into our association’s past to find a rich history of accomplishments. In addition to celebrating our past, the 175th anniversary planning has been focused on the future of the ASA to do our best to lay the foundation for the bicentennial celebrations and beyond.
