Waller Education Awards
Thanks to the generosity of Ray and Carolyn Waller, there are now two Waller awards to recognize outstanding statistical educators.
Lester R. Curtin Award
The Lester R. Curtin Award was established recently to help promising young health statisticians get the skills and training they need to make significant contributions in their area of study.
Janet Norwood Award
The section on statistical genetics and the department of biostatistics in the school of public health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham request nominations for the 10th annual Janet L. Norwood Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in the Statistical Sciences.
The Jeanne E. Griffith Mentoring Award
William P. Mockovak was recently announced winner of this year’s Jeanne E. Griffith Mentoring Award for being a champion role model and mentor.
Byar Award Winner, JSM Program Announced
This year, the Byar award committee received a record-setting 62 submissions of high-quality papers, but chose only one winner. Read more to find out who and learn about the section’s JSM plans.

Nominations Sought for Deming Lecture, Noether Awards
Nominations for the 2013 Deming Lecturer Award are due July 15. The awardee will give the Deming Lecture (an invited paper) at the Joint Statistical Meetings and receive a $1,000 honorarium, award plaque, and money for travel expenses.
Myrto Lefkopoulou Distinguished Lecture
Each year, the Myrto Lefkopoulou lectureship is awarded to a promising biostatistical scientist who has made contributions to either collaborative or methodologic research in the applications of statistical methods to biology or medicine and/or excellence in the teaching of biostatistics.
