At the 2016 Joint Statistical Meetings, Mary Batcher, Nathaniel Schenker, and Jim Rosenberger presented the panel discussion “My Life as a Statistical Consultant.” They shared stories and wisdom from their careers and responded to questions about being a statistical consultant in different environments. The ASA Fellow Award 2015 Update

The ASA’s 62 new fellows were honored August 11 during the Joint Statistical Meetings in Seattle, Washington. The new fellows are from 24 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and six other countries. Fellows are recognized for outstanding professional contributions to and leadership in statistical science. This article continues the tradition of providing a descriptive analysis of the ASA fellows and adds data for the 103 nominees and 62 fellows in 2015. Data are presented by employment sector and gender.

Business/Industry Offers Dynamic Environment for Statisticians

The statistics profession has had a profound impact on such diverse areas as health care, the environment, conducting the census, and education. Perhaps less visible has been the significant effect statistics has had on business and industry—the private sector. Here, Roger Hoerl from GE illustrates how business and industry affords statistics students another viable career option.
