2020 Bachelor’s Degree Recipients in Statistics Show Resilience

This spring’s respondents to the ASA survey of 2020 bachelor’s graduates reported a challenging, stressful, and prolonged job search, although the results also show an unemployment rate roughly the same as the rate for the 2016 and 2017 respondents, higher median salaries, and hiring by a variety of companies.

Every year, a list of internship opportunities for students is published in Amstat News. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills in a variety of areas. There is something for everyone, from positions at pharmaceutical companies to a summer spent with some of the top companies in the tech industry. Improve your programming skills, make connections, learn how statistics are used in daily life. Interested students will send a letter of inquiry and résumé directly to the contact and locations listed.

Trainees Wanted for SIBS II Program

In response to a national shortage of trained biostatisticians, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute funded three annual summer internship programs at various biostatistics/statistics departments throughout the country. The success of these prompted more programs to be funded, and those programs need participants.

Biostatistics Internship Opportunities Available

A 2001 ad hoc meeting of biostatistics leaders from academia, industry, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) addressed a national shortage of trained biostatisticians. In response to the recommendation that summer internships “be supported for undergraduate students to expose them to biostatistics and bioinformatics,” the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) funded three annual summer internship programs, called the Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics (SIBS).

Three Interns Share Insights from NISS-NASS Projects
