ASA Forensic Science Committee Celebrates 10 Years

Last fall marked 10 years since the ASA Board of Directors created an ad hoc committee on forensic science. The Advisory Committee on Forensic Science’s creation recognized and formalized the ongoing critical work of ASA members to ensure a strong statistical perspective in the forensic science reform effort.

Awards for Women Fall Short

The Association for Women in Science undertook the AWARDS project in cooperation with the ASA, American Mathematical Society, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Association of America, American Chemical Society, American Geophysical Union, and Society for Neuroscience to determine what percentage of awards are going to women. Measuring against percentage of PhDs going to women from 1971–2000, the percentage of scholarly awards going to women fell short in all but one of the societies.
