Peggy Carr’s journey began in Cleveland, Ohio, where her family moved during The Great Migration. Carr was the first person of color in executive management at the National Center for Education Statistics and among the first to join the Federal Senior Executive Service.

Knashawn H. Morales
Knashawn H. Morales is one of two daughters born and raised in North Carolina to loving and supportive parents. From an early age, she developed an appreciation for science and public health. Having a mother and father who were trained as a chemist and an architectural engineer, respectively, likely influenced her. After earning her doctorate, Morales became a research scientist at the New England Research Institutes. Within two years, she joined the University of Pennsylvania, where she collaborated with investigators on research focusing on mental health services and behavioral modification interventions for asthma, insomnia, weight management, and HIV/STD risk reduction. She enjoys mentoring students and noted, “I am blessed to have had wonderful mentors along my journey and can only hope to pay it forward by being a positive influence for others.”
Anna B. Nevius
When Anna Nevius took a statistics course her senior year in college, she knew it was the field she wanted to study. After earning her PhD in applied statistics from the University of Maryland, she landed a job at the US Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine in their biostatistics group. Having found her dream job, she spent the rest of her career there designing studies and improving the ways data is gathered for animals who cannot verbally respond. She has since retired but continues to mentor colleagues as a member of the ASA and Caucus for Women in Statistics. She also served on the ASA Board of Directors as Council of Sections representative in addition to serving as chair of the Biopharmaceutical Section.
