Science journalists and applied statisticians are kindred spirits. Both require some of the same skills. You need to be able to synthesize and analyze a large amount of information, and boil it down to its essence. You need to communicate complicated ideas in a way that’s easy for nonspecialists to understand. And you’re trained to have a healthy sense of skepticism.
