Survey Research Methods Section News
Much of SRMS’ activity in 2014 will be centered on the Joint Statistical Meetings, to be held in Boston, Massachusetts, in August. SRMS will again sponsor many activities, including short courses and a variety of technical sessions.
Nonclinical Biostatistics Conference Place for Growth, Recognition
The third biennial Nonclinical Biostatistics Conference will take place from October 15–17. The conference was created to provide a venue for technical presentations, professional growth, and recognition for those statisticians engaged in nonclinical statistics.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s (UAB) Section on Statistical Genetics announces a short course, Next-Generation Sequencing: Technology and Statistical Methods, on December 13–16 at UAB in Birmingham and HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville, Alabama.
Byar Award Presented, Short Course Announced
During JSM 2011, the Biometrics Section presented its David P. Byar Young Investigator Award to Daniela Witten of the University of Washington for her paper “Penalized Classification Using Fisher’s Linear Discriminant.” It also invited section members to attend a two-day short course on the prevention and treatment of missing data in clinical trials.
