The 2008 “Annual Survey of the Mathematical Sciences, Second Report” is now available on the American Mathematical Society’s (AMS) web site. The report presents information about departments, faculties, and students in the mathematical sciences at four-year colleges and universities in the United States. The information in the report was collected from doctorate-granting departments beginning in late spring 2008. In addition, the report incorporates information about 143 doctoral recipients’ room departments that responded too late to have the information included in the first report.
The 2009 survey represents the 52nd in an annual series begun in 1957 by the AMS. It is under the direction of the Data Committee, a joint committee of the AMS, the ASA, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Mathematical Association of America. The first report appeared in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society in February 2009 and can be viewed here.
