The museum and exhibits committee of Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013 (MPE2013) is holding an open source exhibition of virtual modules competition.

The typical modules submitted to this competition can be of the following four forms and should have scientific explanations for the public:

  • A module explaining how to realize a physical module in a museum
  • An interactive exhibit to be watched on the web or experienced in a museum
  • A film
  • Image(s)

The competition will be open until May 15.

Winners will be selected by an international jury nominated by MPE2013 and announced in August. The judges’ decision will be final.

The first-, second-, and third-prize winners will receive respective prizes of $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000. Winning modules will occupy a prominent place on the website of the exhibition. Moreover, it is planned to show the modules of the overall winners in exhibitions and museums.

MPE2013 is a world initiative, with partners from all continents, including the American Mathematical Society, the American Statistical Association, Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
