The Survey Research Methods Section met in an informal setting during JSM in Denver with the current officers and other survey researchers. At the business meeting, we recognized outgoing officers Karol Krotki (past chair), Young Chun (program chair), and Safaa Amer (secretary) and welcomed new officers Tony An (chair-elect), Brady West (program chair-elect), and Gina Walejko (secretary).

SRMS has 1,286 members and is in good financial shape, as reported by Treasurer Darcy Steeg Morris. Our account balance is in the ASA target zone of two to three times our annual expenses.

Council of Sections Representatives Jamie Ridenhour and Julia Soulakova reminded the section that this is the year to review and update our charter. SRMS members will vote on the section board’s changes in the 2020 election.

The ASA is also launching section awards for longtime service to the section. Each section will make an award every three years. Member Stas Kolenikov also informed members about BigSurv 2020, to be held November 4–6, 2020, in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

During JSM 2019, the SRMS sponsored 13 invited sessions, 18 topic-contributed sessions, seven contributed sessions, four speed sessions, two poster sessions, and five roundtable discussions.

At our business meeting, we celebrated the SRMS Student Travel Award winners, GSS/SRMS/SSS Student Paper Award winners, SRMS Poster Award winners, and SRMS members who became ASA Fellows (Babette Brumback of the University of Florida, Craig Hill of RTI International, and Jonathan Schildcrout of Vanderbilt University).

Look for section news in the SRMS Newsletter in July and January in preparation for JSM 2020 in Philadelphia, to be held August 1–6. Also, watch for the 2019 JSM Proceedings to appear on our website next year and make plans to attend the SRMS business meeting in Philadelphia.
