The National Institute of Statistical Sciences is sponsoring an Ingram Olkin forum to bring world experts together to discuss statistical strategies for estimating the prevalence of human trafficking. The forum will kick off with a webinar from 1–4 p.m. ET on March 15.
The panelists are Sir Bernard Silverman of Oxford University, Rowland Seymour of the University of Birmingham, Tyler McCormick of the University of Washington, Nancy Hagan of the North Carolina Human Trafficking Commission, and Margaret Henderson of The University of North Carolina.
The first presentation will summarize current challenges in estimating prevalence, the second will describe a respondent-driven sampling approach, and the third will focus on multiple systems estimation. The presentations will be followed by a brief discussion among the experts, followed by small-group breakout sessions in which participants can discuss developing an agenda of statistical action items needed to better inform public policy and generate reliable evidence that can be used to mitigate the problem.
Ingram Olkin forums aim to bring the latest innovations in statistical methodology and data science into new research and public policy collaborations, working to accelerate the development of innovative approaches that affect societal problems. The forum aims to generate energy and synergy that will create a flurry of new ideas and approaches. Registration is open.
The forum will be recorded through Zoom and published on the NISS YouTube channel.
