The word EDITOR surrounded by wooden letters

The American Statistical Association invites nominations and applications for the position of co-editor of the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports.

JQAS publishes timely, high-quality, peer-reviewed research on the quantitative aspects of professional and amateur sports, including collegiate and Olympic competition. The journal’s scope reflects the increasing demand for novel methods to analyze and understand data in the growing field of sports analytics. Articles address a wide variety of sports and diverse perspectives to address topics such as game outcome models, measurement and evaluation of player performance, tournament structure, analysis of rules and adjudication processes, within-game strategy, analysis of sporting technologies, and player and team ranking methods.

The journal has an impact factor of 1.0 and a five-year impact factor of 1.3

All submissions are rigorously refereed using a double-anonymous peer-review process. Using DeGruyter’s online manuscript tracking system, the co-editors review manuscript submissions, select papers for peer review, and assign manuscripts for associate editors to carry out the refereeing process. Authors are responsible for producing their own articles. Each year, JQAS receives about 200 submissions and publishes four issues.

The new co-editor will serve a four-year term, from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2030. The current editor’s term continues through December 31, 2027, when a new co-editor will be appointed to serve from January 1, 2028, to December 31, 2031. Each co-editor serves a full four-year term staggered for a two-year overlap between outgoing and incoming co-editors. Nominations and applications should be sent to ASA Journals Manager Eric Sampson.

Once received, nominations and applications will be presented to the chair of the JQAS editor search committee for further consideration. Interested individuals are encouraged to nominate themselves.

The deadline for nominations and applications is July 6. Applications should include a CV; three references; and a letter of interest describing the candidate’s vision for the publication, directions the candidate would pursue, and contributions they would make if selected editor.
