Kansas State University Honors Ron Wasserstein

May 1, 2026 Leave a Comment

Ron Wasserstein was recently named a 2026 Alumni Fellow by Kansas State University, representing the College of Arts and Sciences.

He’s one of 11 fellows named in the 2026 class, which were chosen for high levels of professional accomplishment and distinguished service in their careers.

Wasserstein has been executive director of the American Statistical Association since 2007, where he ensures the organization fulfills its mission to promote the practice and profession of statistics. He oversees a staff of 31, serving more than 14,000 members from the ASA’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

Before joining the ASA, Wasserstein was a faculty member and administrator at Washburn University, serving as chief academic officer from 2000–2007.

He earned his master’s degree in 1984 and doctorate in 1987, both in statistics from K-State. He is grateful for the relationships with K-State faculty that helped launch and sustain his career.

Wasserstein joined the ASA as a grad student and served in many leadership roles before becoming chief executive officer. His favorite part of the job is meeting with colleagues doing interesting things across the nation and around the world.

He and his wife, Sherry, K-State ’79, have 11 children—Izzy, Matt, Rachel, Grace, John, Beth, Jessica, Joel, Rose, Peterson, and Abner.
