ASA Journals: A World of Impact

Measuring the impact of scientific publications is a tricky thing. Please don’t get me started on the “impact factor,” which is certainly useful but equally certain to be misused.

Most readers reach our journals online, so we do have some solid numbers to measure impact. For example:

• In 2025, nearly 3 million articles were downloaded from ASA-owned titles. 2026 is on pace to surpass that number.
• The top five most-downloaded articles in the last 12 months (and published in the last three years) account for 90,141 downloads.
• “The ASA Statement on p-Values: Context, Process, and Purpose” continues to lead in the Altmetric Score category at 2370. (The Altmetric Score measures online attention from a variety of sources.)

Readers in North America, Europe, and Asia comprise most users, but Central/South America and Africa users are well represented.

The ASA’s journals are an integral part of the foundation for the practice and profession of statistics, while also providing a high-profile platform to showcase the very latest in statistics and data science theory, practice, and tools. As we say in the ASA journals department, no matter how you intersect with statistics—in academia, industry, government, or education—we have a journal for that.

Good to Know

• The ASA has new journals. Be sure to check out Statistics and Data Science in Imaging and ASA Discoveries. Both are open-access, online-only journals.
• With your ASA membership, you have free online access to all the ASA titles, going back to Volume 1, Issue 1. Did you know you also have complimentary access to the Mathematical Association of America’s Math Horizons, along with more than 25 other journal titles?
• Authors who publish in ASA journals are encouraged to post the submitted versions of their papers to arXiv or a similar publicly available repository. Authors of accepted papers can post their peer-reviewed versions 12 months after publication.
• Royalties earned by the ASA’s journals support the association’s programs.
• The ASA Board of Directors reviews all subscription prices and author processing charges. This is only one reason why the ASA’s journals are not only world class in content, but also one of the best values around.
