The Symposium on Data Science and Statistics program committee members invite practitioners, researchers, educators, and statisticians working in data science and AI to share their work with the data science and statistics community by submitting an abstract through November 30.
Why SDSS?
SDSS is the American Statistical Association’s annual symposium dedicated to the intersection of data science, AI, and statistics. While the Joint Statistical Meetings covers the broad field of statistics, SDSS has a more focused mission: exploring how statistical thinking and methodology advance data science and AI—and how data science and AI are, in turn, changing the practice and development of statistics.
The symposium brings together professionals from diverse disciplines to share current work, explore new approaches, and build collaborations that can advance the field and bring value to society.
The program committee is particularly interested in abstracts that showcase innovative methodologies, practical applications, emerging technologies, and lessons learned in the following four areas:
- Data Science Applications: Case studies and novel contributions involving machine learning, computational statistics, and statistical methodology, particularly applications that demonstrate how these approaches are being used to address real-world problems
- Education & Professional Development: Innovative approaches to AI, data science, and statistics education, as well as efforts to develop the skills and workforce needed for the future
- Systems & Infrastructure for Applied Data Science: Work addressing the systems, technology, and infrastructure required to support applied AI, data science, and statistics—including the underlying tools and environments that enable practitioners to put these methods into practice
- AI & LLM Applications: Innovative applications of AI and large language models in data science research, practice, and education
Join Us in Pittsburgh
The 2027 symposium will be held April 27–29 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The program will feature hundreds of presentations about emerging methodologies and applications across AI, data science, and statistics.
SDSS also offers opportunities to expand your skills and perspectives with the following:
- Four half-day continuing education courses, with one course included in every registration (new for 2027)
- Two keynote speakers from industry (Noor Aftab) and academia (Robert Gramacy), who will offer today’s perspective in an ever-changing data science and AI environment
- A panel focused on the future of data science, AI, and statistics
- Opportunities to connect and collaborate with professionals working across industry, academia, and government
Whether you are developing a new methodology, applying existing methods to solve a business or scientific problem, exploring the use of AI and LLMs, or developing the next generation of data science professionals, your work has a place at SDSS. Submit your abstract and join us in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, April 27–29, 2027.
