Leslie McClure says she found involvement in the ASA has allowed her to pursue her passion for increasing diversity and representation among folks traditionally underrepresented in statistics, including BIPOC statisticians, statisticians who identify as women, and LBGTQ+ statisticians.

Rina Foygel Barber Wins 2020 COPSS Presidents’ Award
The Presidents’ Award parallels the Fields Medal in mathematics and is given annually by COPSS to a young member of the statistical community in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession. Samuel Kou Wins 2012 COPSS Presidents’ Award
The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies recently recognized Samuel Kou for groundbreaking contributions to stochastic modeling and statistical inference in single molecule biophysics; for pioneering the equi-energy sampler; for fundamental contributions to Bayesian, empirical Bayes, and nonparametric methods; and for outstanding service to the statistical profession and contribution to statistical education. Nilanjan Chatterjee Wins COPSS Awards
The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) annually presents awards to honor statisticians under the age of 41 for their outstanding research contributions and service to further the field of statistics. This year, along with the COPSS president’s award, Nilanjan Chatterjee was selected to receive the COPSS Snedecor award. Chatterjee, known for his important and diverse contributions across biostatistics, epidemiology and genetics, spoke to Bhramar Mukherjee’s about winning the two awards.
